New Book
The Prospector’s Dreams
“They were the kind of dreams he only had in Bounty, but he hadn’t been there in years.”
The dreams wouldn't stop coming. The Prospector knew he would have to travel to Bounty, Nevada, in the hopes of ending the onslaught. He would have to leave his quiet beach and journey to the old mining ghost town, calling him to return.
Read The Prospector's Dreams—a story cycle containing thirty-one short-short stories about strangeness, kids & parents, also-rans, falling in love—all mixed together during a journey in the American West.
Work
The Prospector’s Dreams is my current book out for purchase. There is a hardback and an ebook version to choose from. A paperback version should be available this Spring 2026.
My poetry book, VJM : poems from the darkside of love, is currently out of print, but a reprint is in conversation.
If you’d like to keep up on my work, I have a Substack page with recent posts and in-between publications until my next book.
Thanks for supporting independent authors and booksellers!

Bio
J. S. Welch writes poetry and fiction shaped by his life in the American West, the West Coast, and the natural and mystical worlds that run through both. His work is often casual in tone, rich in mood, and draws on contemplation, observation, and a deep focus on place: from desert edges to coastal cities. He is the author of the short story collection, The Prospector's Dreams, published in 2025 and a book of poetry, VJM : poems from the darkside of love, published previously, both under the Wolfhound Press imprint. Born and raised in Kansas, he has lived in San Diego and has settled in Seattle with his wife and children. He is, by his own account, the slowest writer he knows.
